To Chop or Not?

Is it me, or does everyone seem to be going for a cropped do lately? I cut my shoulder length hair into a short bob about 12 months ago and I love it! However, now that I've taken the first step, I'm totally engrossed by the idea of going even shorter! It all started with Garance and her super fun long top/short sides, and now, 10 months and dozens of Pinterest boards later, I'm still not quite ready to take the plunge.

It does look super chic though, right?

As long as your avoid these big mistakes. Have you ever gone for a cut this dramatic?

Soundtracking My Life- Detlef Schrempf

Do you tend to 'soundtrack' your life? Maybe it comes from my love of High Fidelity, but I am definitely prone to romanticizing even the most mundane situations with a carefully chosen song in my headphones. This Band of Horses song was my track of choice while walking over the river, away from the sunset after work last week.

BUT if my life was a movie, this would have been playing as I wandered along a remote, deserted beach on a bleak and dreary winters day.

If you were on the remote beach, what song would be playing?

Travel Snaps- Am I overthinking it?

by Garance

How do you take your travel photos? Do you carry a big DSLR, with lots of lenses? Do you instagram? Or something in between? Exploring through Tumblr hashtags prior to my trip to Vietnam has left me wondering what to do.

My last trip, I carried a little freezeproof/waterproof/shockproof/apoalypse-proof point and shoot, which was great for the slopes, the hot tub and ridiculous amazing views I was trying to shoot by ducking under barrier fencing and leaning into icy valleys. In none of these places would I have been carrying my DSLR, and I now have photos of moments I wouldn't otherwise have captured.

Many other places I go, I'm carrying my phone, equipped with Instagram. Here are some photos from places that aren't home.

Wandering around Vancouver

I think it makes for more playful and quirky photos, which are kind of unique, and 'outside the box'.

Leaves in Hanhdorf

And sometimes, you can get some pretty stunning results too.

Largs Bay- South Australia

I don't think I'll be carting a big camera around South East Asia, and I think I'll be better off, and more likely to capture the more personal, original side of my travels. But I know there will always be pangs of jealousy that I won't be equipped to capture something like this:

What do you think? Do you travel with a big photography rig? Do you think I need to reconsider?

The Maiden Voyage

Hi There!
Welcome to We Talked All Night, and this, the first post of (hopefully) many, dealing with life, career, travel and my general attempts at being a better adult (could I be more vague?).

I haven't blogged in earnest for many, many years now, but as this year marks my 10 year anniversary with the internet, I'm attempting a come back to the long form with a vengeance. (LiveJournal and Lord of the Rings forums being the rigorous environment in which I cut my teeth- Classy, right?).

Some of the major points:

I am:
25
Female
Australian
Career Oriented
Over Ambitious

On more frivolous things, I am:
Learning French (Salut!)
Trying to learn to skateboard.
A bit of a productivity nerd. Just a nerd in general, really.

I'll leave it here for now- more posts soon!!
